Applications
Calcium stearate is also called calcium octadecanoate. White light crystalline powder. Chemical formula (C17H35COO)2Ca. The molecular weight is 607.00. decomposed by high heat. Insoluble in water, cold ethanol Chemicalbook and ether, soluble in hot benzene, toluene and turpentine, slightly soluble in hot ethanol and ether. It decomposes with strong acid into stearic acid and corresponding calcium salt. It absorbs water in the air. Not resistant to lipolytic microorganisms. High-temperature decomposition produces stearone and hydrocarbon. Nontoxic.
